After picking up an ailing hitchhiker, Star, an ex-cowboy war vet, Logan, finds little in common with this singer/songwriter from Los Angeles. Star is fleeing her past while Logan tries to deal with his. Logan survives through routine. Star is a rebellious free spirit. Both strive to keep their past buried but friction develops. Breaking points are reached and passed, but a common thread binds them together, exposing the chinks in their armor. When they open up to each other, a relationship builds.

Filming a movie during the Covid Pandemic presented an elevated level of complications. All DGA and SAG safety protocols were adhered to. We found a location, the Glover Ranch in Marana, that offered many sets in one area. When we scouted it was perfect. When we filmed there, starlings had invaded every tree. Hundreds of hours of post-sound eliminated the birds. What made the film work was the stellar cast and crew. I thank them all.

I’m so thrilled to be back in Dubuque for this special event. A few years ago my first film, Lucky U Ranch, played here. And now The Crossroads is having its
debut! I live in Tucson and invite you to visit; it’s a special place, like Dubuque.
My background is all over the map. I have an MFA in studio art and painted full time for many years until 1977 when I opened a company importing home furnishings from Asia. I sold it in ‘03 and went back to painting until I took a course in screenwriting which changed my life. Ironically, it tied into my childhood as my family was in the entertainment business. My dad partnered with Gene Autry, was western songwriter of the year in the early 40s, and wrote Here Comes Santa Claus. My uncle was, and my cousins are still in the biz. It took me a while.
A screenplay is the one form of writing not meant to be read--it’s meant to be watched! I hope you all enjoy watching every- one’s scripts come to life on the big screen over these next few days. Again, thank you for having me back.
